The 13th EU-India Summit begins in Brussels on March 30. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is representing India in the summit. The important issues concerning India are:
1. Access to the market for IT and ITES services in the European Union (EU) – India has not been granted ‘Data Secure’ status by the EU which is crucial for number of services especially in IT and ITES sectors. ‘Data Secure’ status of India will build credibility of Indian companies and enable Indian BPO units to access data of EU based companies and provide services to EU based companies.
2. Demand by textile industry in India to have a free trade with EU. Free trade with EU will promote textile exports of India.
3. Broad-based Trade and Investment Agreement (BTIA), if signed between India and EU will liberalise trade and investment between EU and India.
