At least 14 people, including one militant were killed, and over 20 injured when suspected Bodo militants attacked market in Kokrajhar district in Assam.
About Kokrajhar district
The Kokrajhar district is a Bodo-dominated area and has been a centre of ethnic conflicts for a long time.
The mastermind behind the attack is suspected to be the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB).
Security forces and the police said the NDFB(S) was not in talks with the government. This group is against the peace talks. Intelligence agencies reckon that the attack may be in retaliation to the killing of a leader of the faction last month.
The National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) is an armed separatist outfit which seeks to obtain a sovereign Bodoland for the Bodo people in Assam, India. It is designated as a terrorist organisation by the Government of India.
NDFB traces its origin to Bodo Security Force, a militant group formed in 1986. The group has carried out several attacks in Assam, targeting non-Bodo civilians as well as the security forces.
