The Unique Identification Authority has generated over a billion Aadhaar cards. This accounts for nearly 80 % of country’s population being covered under unique identification system.

– Around 93% of adults have Aadhaar registration.

– Around 67 % of population between 5-18 years have Aadhaar registration.

– Around 20% children aged less than 5 have Aadhaar registration.

This comes after the Parliament passed the Aadhaar (Targeted delivery of financial and other subsidies, benefits and services) Act 2016 in March.

This act gives a legal backing to Aadhar scheme and to transfer of subsidies and benefits to people through identification by Aadhar.

The government has saved around Rs 17,360 crore through targeted subsidies by various programs. The Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Mission under the Cabinet Secretary has asked all ministries to widen the scope of DBT for all welfare and subsidy schemes.

The government on its part has also assured of taking all necessary steps and precautions to ensure privacy in Aadhaar Act.
