Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be in Washington DC to attend the fourth and last Nuclear Security Summit (NSS). The NSS series was launched by US President Barack Obama in Washington in 2010. It will review the work done on nuclear security over the last six years.
Iran and North Korea have not been invited, and Russian President Vladimir Putin will stay away due to his differences with US over Ukraine.
India and NSS:
India has played a major role in NSS and has also made a voluntary contribution of $1 million to the Nuclear Security Fund.
Global Centre of Excellence for Nuclear Energy Partnership has also been established in India.
As the process is limited to non-military purposes which makes 83 per cent of nuclear material is outside its ambit.
