The Bombay High Court rapped the BCCI and cricket associations in Maharashtra and Mumbai over water wastage, when the state is reeling under severe drought.

The Court said that ideally the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches should be shifted elsewhere where there is no water crisis. The court even asked the govt. to impose some kind of restraint on   the water wastage.  It came heavily down on associations asking them how can they waste water when they know the conditions in Maharashtra and they further questioned the associations  whether people are more important or IPL matches?

Earlier a NGO, Loksatta Movement had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging nearly 60 lakh litres of water to maintain 3 cricket stadiums in the state.
