The Indian govt. has decided to appeal against WTO verdict over its policy relating to solar power. US had earlier challenged India’s decision to impose a stipulation that solar cells and solar modules be sourced locally in the WTO. The WTO gave a verdict in favour of US.

India’s capacity to produce solar components and cells is small which means foreign companies have a substantial market to cater to.

Indian companies had a complaint against US companies for dumping in India but the govt. convinced them not to pursue the complaint and expected US also to show good faith in following the stipulation but US challenged it, as imposing anti-dumping duties on US would mean solar tariffs will be increased.
