West Bengal and Assam start their election process of electing new state legislative assemblies with the 1st phase of voting starting today. The two states along with 2 other states (Tamil Nadu, Kerala) and a union territory (Puducherry) will be going to multi-phase voting in April and May . 

West Bengal:

Number of constituencies going to vote: 18

These include 13 classified as left wing extremism affected by the Election Commission in West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura areas. Voting ends in these 13 constituencies at 4 p.m.

Number of candidates in fray: 133

Assam:

Number of constituencies going to vote: 65 out of 126

The constituencies of sitting CM, Tarun Gogoi and BJP’s CM candidate Sabrananda Sonowal will be voting today.
